This month meet Katie Brassil from Centennial Coal and Shelly Youman from One Community; two inspiring women with sporting connections.
With over 30 years experience in the private sector and all three tiers of government, including 20 years in elected and governance positions. Katie has demonstrated leadership and specialist skills in economic development; strategic planning and management; stakeholder engagement and consultation; public and government relation.
Katie is comfortable working in male dominated industries, spending the past 13 years in the mining sector as Executive General Manager Approvals, Sustainability and Corporate Communications and is currently serving on the Board of the NSW Minerals Council. Katie is also the first woman appointed to the Board of The West Group in its 60 year history. And while she has “never stuck her head in the front row of a scrum”, was appointed by the NRL where she served three years on the Newcastle Knights’ board before the franchise was transferred to the Wests Group. She is also a Director of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service an aeromedical retrieval service covering the northern half of NSW.
Katie is a mother and grandmother and in her spare time an avid mountain bike rider.
Shelley is the Director of One Community. One Community is a new business that has a focus to open the world of choice, control and empowerment for people with disabilitie by using multiple platforms that provide up-to-date information and direct linkages to disability service providers, mainstream service providers and community groups.
Shelley is a former Matilda representing Australia on 23 occasions and held an AIS Scholarship at the Australian Institution of Sport whilst bringing up three children under the age of five at the time. She has worked in Management for over 20 years which includes 15 years working in sport for Federal Government and State Government as well General Manager of Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union.
Shelley will talk about her challenges, successes and highlights throughout her work and playing career.
